Cutting Thick Aluminium

Cutting thick aluminium  is by no means an easy feat but if you have a water jet cutter thats a different story. Take a large 230 mm thick, 70 kilo block of aluminium and convert it into an engine part. Easy right? For TMC, yes it is! Conventional machining would produce massive amounts of swarf and create a lot of scrap material.

Removing only 1mm of material and eradicating swarf completely, water jet cutting is clearly the best process for this application. Scrap produced is a solid piece of aluminium which can be reused for other parts. As the process is cold, distortion and heat hardened edges simply don’t exist making additional machining much easier. Saved material and decreased machining time off set the part cost.
