We are always interested to learn of advances in water jet cutting from around the world and an Indian start-up has recently grabbed our attention.
Based in Madras, the team has designed a concept for the country’s first abrasive waterjet machine which can be used for cutting combustible materials without generating heat.
Their hope is this can play a major role in India’s developing industries, including those related to semiconductors, aviation, defence and the diamond industry.
Currently, those requiring such a machine in India would be reliant on a wholly imported water jet cutter. Being able to build machines in Madras would drastically reduce overheads.
Of the development, which has received sizeable funding from grants, a director said: “The benefit associated with the utilisation of waterjet cutting machine is its ability to cut a material without generating heat that may harm materials like rubber, textiles, foam, leather, plastics, tile, stone glass, food, paper, and other combustible materials, making it a promising solution in sectors such as defence, aerospace, oil and gas industries.”
The wider impact of such developments is that they highlight the growing adoption of water jet cutting globally and also a desire for countries to develop their own cutting capabilities.
This is a reflection of the advantages water jet cutting offers both to the accuracy of cut but also in helping to reduce overheads. Any nation that does not adopt water jet cutting is unlikely to remain competitive across industries where cutting of parts is a regular necessity.
We have seen the emergence of water jet cutting across much of Asia, this at times outstripping the pace of adoption in Europe and the US, leading to rapid growth for many economies.
India expanding its water jet cutting will likely boost their economy while also adding new competition to those who currently have an advantage.
At TMC, we are a water jet cutter that serves the whole of the UK and increasingly Europe too, with clients across the content trusting us to work on their projects.
Despite our success, we remain a company that focuses on every client and work on projects of all sizes. If you think water jet cutting might be of use for your project, please do get in touch for an obligation-free chat.
