In this blog, over the years we have covered dozens of creative uses for water jet cutting, but this one is a first.
We have never before written about water jet cutting in relation to sheds.
You might assume we mean portable water jet cutting, those machines that bring a basic version of the technology to, if not the masses, at least a few more workshops.
However, this is actually water jet cutting used to make a shed, and not just any shed. An award-winning shed that resembles a castle!
The shed, we have to say, looks stunning as this image shows. It isn’t a shed really, it is a folly – and in the positive sense of that word.
Water jet cutting made the design possible. Of course, wood and other parts could be cut into shape without water jet cutting, but the technology allowed it to be cut at a price that was affordable and with complete accuracy – everything slotting together perfectly.
Admittedly, the overall cost of the shed wasn’t cheap – the owner saying she spent around £10,000. Much of that was on top quality fittings and furnishing, the construction costs just a small percentage.
The results were enough to win an award at the Cuprinol Shed of the Year awards, it is also a structure that the owners are making great use of, dozens of guests coming round for chats, drinks and socialising.
Jane, the brains behind the design, told MyLondon: “It is a life-enhancing jewel of a building that multi-tasks as a cosy coffee-to-cocktails venue, writing retreat, a shed for garden cushions and a cabinet of curiosities exhibition space.
“I can just seat seven people for a sundowner and to date 137 people have had one. I know because I counted. Everyone says it is a wonderful calming space. It is; I love it.”
What we love is seeing water jet cutting used in places it makes the impossible, or unlikely not only possible but easily achievable.
Want stunning arches for a back-garden castle? Nowadays, this is as simple as drawing a design and contacting a leading water jet cutter who can talk you through the options and provide a quote.
We firmly believe that water jet cutting is becoming the only practical choice for a majority of cutting jobs – whether for business or pleasure.
